It has been ‘confirmed’ that the update for the PS3 is tommorow (oct 15). Here are the details:
Announcing PS3 v2.50
The next system software updates for both the PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP will be available tomorrow! Here’s a quick rundown of the great new features that we’ll be able to enjoy from 15 October 2008:PS3 System Software version 2.50
- Improved Official Bluetooth Headset wireless headset support, including an on-screen indicator that shows volume, battery charge, and mute functions.
- Bluetooth Headset Wireless headset High Quality (HQ) mode, which utilises advanced wireless technologies and the headset’s dual-microphone design to enable clear and wide-band wireless voice communication with PS3 system.
- An in-game screenshot capture tool – titles that support the feature will be announced in the future.
- PS3 Trophies user interface enhancement – When players acquire a Trophy, the in-game notification will now include the specific Trophy icon created by the developer, while more intuitive options for comparing Trophies with friends have been added, including an icon to represent each Trophy level.
- Video – Video scene search functionality will provide thumbnails to help you find a particular scene in a video more easily.
- Information Board – The Information Board will be able to include direct links to PlayStation Store, making it easier for PS3 owners to download content that they read about on the Information Board.
- Power save – PS3 owners will have the option to automatically shut-off their console or controllers after pre-selected periods of inactivity.
- Flash 9 content becomes supported on the Internet Browser.
I THINK HOME is going to be released with it, no word on that yet, although with the video they released they didn’t mention anything, but some official sites did mention HOME will be released with 2.50, as did I. We will just have to wait and see. The update is diffinatly going to be sometime this week, if not tommorow due to the fact that PSN is down and so are the severs “Severs are down for Maintainence”. So if my facts are right, hope you all enjoy the update I will write a overview of it tommorow.
I saw a some news that LBP will have an DEMO released a week before the game is set to release. Here is the News feed. I am one of those people who tried all out to get a BETA and still failed so this doesn’t really make me happy. knowing that the BETA was just a hoax to create some hype.
But don’t get me wrong I am excited.
Seeing as games are usually developed on the 360 first and then brought over to the ps3, I think this help the ps3. Games such as Alone in the Dark, and BioShock got and are getting a complete over haul before being released to the PS3. Alone in the Dark sounds a lot better and Bioshock is now nicely optimized with fewer crashes and hiccups. Xbox 360 is basically just a computer which is tailored towards gaming and media. So developers first start with the 360 and then move to the PS3 which uses the Cell CPU. The Cell is much harder to work on from scratch it uses indivisual cores as oposed to the multicore CPU of the 360. Each Processor in the PS3 can only do one job at a time but this also helps the PS3. (jack of all trades master of none). So having a base to work off, of is nice. I personally don’t mind waiting a couple of months to play games on my PS3 cause I am getting a better experience, and game ; not to mention that the game will be optimized and set for the PS3.
The only flaw I can see is that the PS3 is held back. Sure the developers can tweak it and optimize but they are only does said to the core game. The core game itself is meant for both systems. The PS3 is being held back from its best because all 360 don’t ship with a hard drive and don’t have Blu-ray disc space. I think the developers should make games separately for each console and have no ties other than the overall game. It shouldn’t matter if the PS3 will have better physics and looks, and it shouldn’t matter if the 360 version has better online, all that should matter is the game will be better to play on each console.
PS3 is being held back from its best and the 360 is not to blame it’s the developers who need to step up and get paid for proper work. I paid for a specific console (more expensive one mind you) and I want my money’s worth, even if that means putting MORE TIME AND EFFORT INTO IT.
