In my many years of gaming and watching people with tremendous potential do things wrong in the most minor of ways, this will help you, and will mainly help the Newbies in the FPS and shooter genre.

This Tutorial will help out new comers to the FPS gang.
WELCOME!!!

First of let me remind you that PRACTICE MAKES prefect so you aren’t gonna get AMAZING over night. LETS GET STARTED

AIMING

In Call Of Duty 4 you will notice a lock on feature. This will help and not help you in some cases. But the first thing to realize is that the online lock on function and the Single Player Lock-On is different, in range (how close you have to be to your target to lock on) and in Accuracy. The range is very little, I play on a 21” monitor so for me the range would me anywhere around 2cm to 3cm, but off-line it can sometimes be 10cm – 15cm. Once you realize that you have help you will start using it but the “release the left trigger and lock on” Function is gone in multiplayer. The lock-on function in MP is basically the cross hairs slowing down over an opponent, this happens for a very brief moment and not very accurately. The next thing you need to get down is using the “center of the screen”. The Center of the screen is always the center of the cross hair. Thusly you can use the center of the screen as a point to roughly estimate where the cross hairs center is while it is gone, due to movement such running, jumping, etc. But once your target is in the center of the screen use your “Iron Sights” to get a better shot of. Once you get good enough all you have to do is press the “Iron Sight” Trigger and the “Fire” Trigger simultaneously and you have a dead man lying in front of you. But this can prove difficult for beginner. So what I would Recommend is putting your joystick movement speed on low. To do this press start while in-game go to “options”-”sensitivity” then click low. This will help you because while medium may seem great you can easily get out of control and disoriented. To prevent this you have basically caped of how fast you your cross hairs will move around the screen. But this is only for new comers pros can jump right into medium and get good. But for you slow learners I would recommend doing that.

Firing

Next thing is obviously the most important thing, Firing your weapon. You would naturally all ways want to take the pray and spray approach but while you may have some luck with a RPD your best bet is to take the “Spit” approach. “Spiting” is basically just taping your “Fire” trigger just a couple shots down the field, this is also called bursting since some weapons do have options to be put into “Single”,”Triple “and”Automatic” burst fire modes (NOT SUPPORTED IN COD 4) in real life. Some weapons are locked into these for example the M16 is locked into a “Triple” fire mode, so you have to “Spit”, another example is the G3 which is locked in a “Single” fire mode. This can be useful for accuracy at long range and can help you from recoil. The main reason I would not recommend a new comer to use either of those guns is because you need a very good idea of where the middle of your screen is so you don’t need to use your iron sights at close quarter combat but this does have the draw back of you holding the trigger down but that is the best thing to do during CQB. Recoil is the main use of “Spit”, since the guns are having a mini explosion every time a bullet is shot the gun has a tendency to rise up the screen. To prevent this you can use “Spiting” manually, quick taps of your trigger will prevent your gun from rising up to the sky and help you keep that Red Dot on your Target. and a little compensation, even while “Spiting” the gun still rises so just aim at the chest, bigger target and you have a likely hood of the last shot you need to kill the enemy be a head shot.

ADD-ONS and PERKS

(This part I will only state perks between the first couple ranks cause by the time you get to use OverKill or Dead Silence you should be quite capable of handling COD.)

The Add-ons such as “Red Dot”,”ACOG” and “Silencer” are very different. And you will have to play differently while using them. For the “Red Dot” to start of you will usually be front line, the guy with the balls. You are the one preventing the enemy from getting to your snipers and getting around you. You are the First line of defense in a Domination or Headquarter match, or the run-to-cover-n-shoot in DeathMatch. Using the “ACOG” or “Snipers” is a completely different ball game. While the guys with “ACOG” may run up and reinforce the front line your main job is to pick of any frontliners from the opposite team as best you can. The “Snipers” on the other hand will be the most safe you will be FAR back in your base area and have to cover your guys from enemy snipers and “Scouts” you are the LAST LINE AND THE FIRST LINE.
“Scouts” are the most important, “Scouts usually Use a Silencer and “Sub-Machine Gun” such as the MP5. These guys should be the guys who talk the most telling the frontline where the bulk of the action is coming from. They are behind enemy lines and are usually killed by enemy “Snipers” which they are trying to kill. Killing the snipers opens up a brief window of time for the other scouts to advance behind the enemy frontlines and kill them off preventing the first wave of attackers to take control. If perfected this should just cycle through. Their are also multiple types of “Scouts” the “Look out”, “Attacker” and “RUN AND GUN”. The “Look out” will usually be the ones telling the team where the enemy is coming from, where the snipers are, and look out for enemy scouts, they should be up in high places looking for “Snipers” to tell the “Attackers” where to find the “Snipers”. The “Attackers” job is to “Search And Destroy” find the “Snipers” Kill them and let the “RUN AND GUN” guys finish the job. The “RUN AND GUN” guys are the final step they will be ready for the signal to run and gun, with the “Snipers” dead they can advance behind the enemy and kill removing anything threat. After they have finished they return to their hideout and camp out. remember that the front line is a Circular front line not a line the danger could be approaching from any direction so watch your back maybe a guy got through!!

Last Thing

The Last thing to know is, Listen to your gut. Although it may not seem right just shoot. While sniping don’t aim for the head shot and take two minutes. Aim in that 2-3 cm butter zone and take the shot the time you waste lining up that perfect shout could be enough time to be spotted and killed.

In COD 4 your can shoot through walls. If you think their is someone right around a corner shout it, if your cross hairs flash that means theirs an enemy throw a grenade at them and come around the back (flank them). If you think their is someone around the corner just shoot to check. Only one shot otherwise not only will you be on the radar you will be giving your team position away. LAST THING IS TO COMMUNICATE, and WORK AS A TEAM, going solo an’t going to help, being the only lone wolf is never the best thing unless your a scout, where you are still communicating!

Hope this Helps and If you guys have any more questions please Feel free to ask.
