Battle Field franchise has been around for a long time, the PC version was awesome but does the console version have what it takes to match the PC version.

First and foremost, let me remind you that console versions do lack some of the flare of the PC versions due to a couple factors, one being the moding. In PC versions of Battle Field you were able to MOD to your heart’s content, but the console versions do lack that. That aside, the console version do lack one more very crucial thing: players. The PC version has millions upon millions of install base, the console versions have only those who are online at the time, the ps3 isn’t much of a factor since it’s free, and the 360 version will probably have issues down the road since consoles are always getting newer and better games, such as Gears 2, Resistence 2, Far Cry 2, and Killzone 2.

The more time I spent with this game the more I came to realize that the so-called key aspect to this game, blowing up the buildings, the destruction of everything in sight, does feel good but the more you do it the more you realize how FAKE IT IS. I am pretty sure that DICE and EA fooled us all when they said “destruction is key, we have destruction”. We were all expecting Crysis like realism where everything breaks, like it’s supposed to, but what we got instead was fake. All DICE and EA did was replace the wall without the hole in it with a wall with a hole in it, and added a little dust so you can’t see what horrible job they did. Going into the so called NEXT GEN never felt so tacked on. With destruction aside, the next big thing, the “go anywhere do anything” aspect, is also fake. While they say you may be able to go anywhere, unlike Crysis, they’re actually lieing. You can steer off the map a little but then if you go too the game will let you know this with the use of a barge of motor fire. I wanted to see what would happen, so I tested it and all it does is say they are launching motor fire, the counter is counting down, you hear is a “swoosh” of the motor fire noise and the ground exploding beneath you. First time is cool but then you realize how little effort they actually had put into it. I spent almost two hours on the campaign and let me tell you, it is either going to be the longest hours of your life or the most enjoyable moments. The jokes are ok, and the dialogue is sufficient, altough you still don’t feel the immersion of GTA or MGS. You feel like you’re playing a game, and just an ordinary old game with destruction.

Battle Field is Multiplayer. It is two sided, just like the single player – either you’re going to love it or hate it. I liked it at first because having the ability to gain rank and get better guns does feel good, although it’s nothing like Call Of Duty 4. I spent almost two days trying to rank up and I gained only a few ranks. Basically this is the game’s way of telling you: “You suck, this is not for you” and boy did I feel that way. To be honest, I seriously can’t figure out how to rank up. Unlike in COD4 where there is a clear label of points and how you got them at the end of every game, BF shows you the points but if you don’t do well they give you barely any points. It feels like they don’t want people who are poor players; if you do bad you will continue to until you unlock the .50 cal that you are always getting killed with. Sure that will make you want to get better but being an impatient guy and I am sure there are many more of you who are, you would just like to rank up and have all the guns. Game types in BC, well you don’t have much to choose from, actually you don’t have a choice at all, one game type. In this game type, you are fighting for gold, just like the single player your main goal is to either defend or attack the gold. While the attackers have a curtain number of respawns the defenders need to defend until the attackers run out of reinforcements. The only way to get more reinforcements is to capture the gold. There are usually at least two crates of gold per level, which is more than enough since the attackers usually have the upper hand, with tanks and motors. *Having the ability to blow stuff up online is fun, it does make you move, and tanks do feel very scary. The destruction aspect online is a welcome and definitely helps the game. Not being able to camp does have its benefits and when tanks actually scare you it feels very good. So if you get mad at the camping sniper, grab a vehicle, which there are plenty of, and go blow that building up. You also have an air strike, of map motor fire, and you are even able to control a motor turrets on curtain maps, which really helps in the ranking up department. However, since everyone has the same idea get ready to get team killed and shot in the ass on your way to the turret, and be ready to get sniped by not only enemy but your own teammates.

While EA did say something about updating and having deathmatch and team deathmatch, they weren’t clear on when, and I highly doubt anyone is willing to wait it out. Who knows, by that time Gear 2 and Resistance 2 may be out and we will have all forgotten about BC which brings me to what I need to say: This game is not memorable. Battle Field: Bad Company is a definite RENT if not a pass. If you didn’t like the second one much hasn’t changed except for the destruction which is very fun. If you want a game you can play for a weekend, and have fun rent it if you have played all the other good games, enjoy, but I can honestly say buying this was a mistake and I really want my money back.
