This is my first blog post. So please bear with me for any unblog- like- imperfection it may have.

My first blog thread will talk about the experience I have had with WordPress. WordPress is well suited for beginners, meaning it has all the things you need and will ever need if you don’t want to get right down to the CORE of the website. It gives you a template which you can work of and has a lot “Themes” (which are the templates) and “Plug-ins” (which the extras). The good thing is WordPress has a lot of community support via user created content. This gives you flexibility to customize as much as you need; but let me assure you that you will sometimes be putting in a lot of time working out bugs. I have it very easy since my brother is the owner of this sever and has helped me through a couple of the issues and even then WordPress has help him find the answer. WordPress has a very good community and a wide variety of help, from FAQ’s to Support and Forums. WordPress helps with most things such as updates and other services but some issues you may have will quickly be resolved via FAQ support, and if you have an irregular issue like the kind I had with comment body not showing up (visit my brother’s site for more help) WordPress quickly resolved that via an update. Doing all this does have a very good outcome in the end, you will have a professional looking site and your domain instead of having “Johnsmith.myspace.com” you will have “Johnsmith.com” since WordPress offers domain name buying.

The only thing which I don’t like is the confusing way to add “CATEGORIES” and what they do. Categories” are way of making new menu items on your site, this is convenient once you get the hang of how it works but the learning curve for someone who has never used HTML, CSS or a content management system won’t know how to do anything with the site much less use CSS to edit out the “Archive of ‘Home’ in Firdaush’s Blog” from the header text. WordPress does offer a great tutorial for beginners and yes you may have a learning curve there as well; and something tells me they updated WordPress recently and have forgotten to change some of the links and names, so they might say “Extras” but in reality it is actually “Plug-ins” or a link is broken or leads to something else.

All together WordPress is a great way to get my name out since I make music (yes I’m advertising, sue me for trying) and videos, my brother takes photographs, and has great knowledge of HTML, PHP and MySQL.
